Disconnected - Brief

Okay, for the imaginary music video for the song Disconnected, I plan on using three main pieces of footage and reverting back and forth between them. The first piece of footage that will be interspersed throughout the video is various close ups and extreme close ups of the leading lady in the video looking at photographs, looking sad and generally being lonely because she misses her husband.

I also intend on having close up footage and mid-shots of her husband fighting in war, the close ups will be used to show his emotion as he fights and reminisces about his wife and the mid shots will show him fighting. There will be some extreme close ups of him as he loses he leg, showing the injury and his facial expressions as he struggles with his pain.

The third piece of main footage will be the war itself, there will plenty of long shots to show the scale of the war and all the battles going on it. (Lots of sfx here, explosions, gun shots, fake blood, this will show the brutality of war).

So yeah, the first two thirds of the song will be filled with footage full of emotion, however, the last third will have a different tone and will have lots of close-ups as the two protagonists reconcile and show their relief that they're back together. I will also have a long shot, and in that long shot, the women is outside her house waiting and sees her husband coming, when they make eye contact they start running towards each other in dramatic slow motion (or in the man's case, he will wheel himself towards her, because he will be in a wheelchair).

Disconnected by Jazz Morley visualization

To make the song less downbeat and throat-slitting (only joking), I would make the video somber but full of hope and I would give it a happy ending showing people "connecting" (get it?), so basically, I would tell a story but it would be a happy one. I was thinking of someone being injured in war and his wife being sad whilst his gone but when he returns they re-connect and it's all happy and stuff.

It's gonna be a full on story, we will see the man at war being shot and losing his leg, this will be interspersed with footage of his wife reminiscing her time with him and them re-connecting at the end.

Disconnected by Jazz Morley: My thoughts

Wow, this song was horrific, generally, this song made me feel super sad, now, this could be considered to be a bad thing, and it is, however, it does a good job at conveying sadness and I guess that was the target that the artist was aiming for, and in that aspect, she succeeded.

This sounded similar to other melodic/indie artists such as Katie Melua and Adele and I could see images of sadness because of the depressing nature of the lyrics "sad face".

Coldplay "The Scientist" Analysis

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqWLpTKBFcU&ob=av2n - Link to the video

Having watched the video and analyzed the lyrics to the song, I feel the video definitely fits the music and there seems to be some sort of narrative structure that it also follows. Listening to the lyrics I came to the conclusion that the song is about a scientist who neglects his girlfriend because of his work, and then eventually realizes his mistake and wants to go "back to the start".

The video mimics this somewhat, it has him walking backwards throughout and actually going back to the start before his girlfriend died. It is also quite a slow paced somber video which definitely fits the mood of the song. At the end it shows him and his girlfriend happily talking in the car, and this could represent how things could've been had he not neglected her.

Presentation Evaluation

For our presentation, Aden, Jace and I did a clip from The Lost World: Jurassic Park and analyzed the sound within the clip. We made a presentation and presented it to the class. Unfortunately for us, we managed to lose the script, which meant we were unable to finish the slideshow and we were left unprepared when it came to knowing what to say and we basically read off of the slideshow.

I think we could have done a lot better had we been better prepared and taken less long to choose our clip so we had less time and didn't manage to finish the last slide of the presentation. However, I did think we chose a good clip with lots of sounds to analyze and I think we generally realized all the different sounds and understood what type of sounds they were.

Next time we will be more decisive on our initial idea, this will give us more time to work and be more prepared, which should lead to a more cohesive and overall better delivery of whatever it is we may be doing next. Although I'm a bit disappointed with how we performed, I definitely realize our errors and I am confident that in my next task the rest of the group and I will do a much improved job.

Thank you for  reading and goodbye. :)
